If I pull the release lever the bonnet flips up, but when I then try to lift the bonnet while pulling the safety catch lever - it still gets caught on the safety catch. Is it possible my safety catch lever has come disconnected?

Is there a quick way of getting the bonnet up (facelift front) that doesn't involve taking the grille apart?

hi there

iirc, it's maybe an inch to the right of centre. when i pops up, you might be able to see it through the grill.

Just had a go with a torch and a long ruler with no luck. Could someone tell me I'm on the write track.

The release handle is attached to a cable, which I can just about grab although attempting to pull it has no effect - it doesn't seem to want to move. That cable ends at the top of what looks like it might be the safety catch itself. Should I be trying to get the ruler round the back of this to push it forward, or jabbing into the front of it to push it back? Or is that not it at all?

Penguin, all from memory but if you're trying to pull the sheath of the cable, it's attached to the mounting through a grommet...you need to pull the end of the cable where it sticks out of the sheath.

The latch needs to be pulled forwards, not sure if you pulled the bonnet up as far as it would go you'd have enough room to get a blade in there??

Hi mate, not had this problem with my scorp yet but last night I helped a rather pretty lady open the bonnet of her fiesta, due to her opening it so much the release cable had become stretched, I maybe wrong but might be worth a look to see if it can be adjusted.

Dogma, I know what you mean on the Fiesta - the little orange pull under the steering column is flimsy and bends if you use it a lot...

But on the Scorp, there's 2 cables - the one from the bonnet pull in the cab which unlocks the bonnet, then another shorter cable which goes from the handle behind the grille to the latch...this is what I believe has broken in Penguin's case :)

Even the handle on my Scorp was cracking :(

I think whats needed is a piece of coat hanger wire, with a hook bent into the end. Form it so it passes through the grill and over to where the safety latche is. The latch needs to be hooked onto with the wire, then pulled towards you. It might be easier to unhook it if a small amount of pressure is applied to the bonnet.

Had to do exactly that with mine last year, coat hanger worked a treat.
