Title: Master key Post by Chieftain on Feb 28th, 2007, 9:49am As the car only came with 1 key (red dot) I want to have a spare, understand I need the red master, as I dont have it any idea how much Ford will charge to provide replacement? |

Title: Re: Master key Post by pinto on Feb 28th, 2007, 10:08am Rather a lot if memory serves :( Ive come across a lot of cars with the EECV/Safeguard combination with the remnants of the last "red dot" key taped to the underneath of the dashboard near the sensor, which allows the use of a standard tibbe key. Personally, I'd use a similar trick and have a stand alone Cat II immobiliser fitted, which will cost less than £150 fitted |

Title: Re: Master key Post by tintin on Feb 28th, 2007, 10:51am im shortly going to be playing with this, i also have one black key. but, i also have a PATS system (should be expensive to pick one up), which comes with a red key. i will swap the PATS system, get a metal bit of the key made from my black key, then insert that into the red key (apparently you can pull out the metal bit and glue a new one in). this should mean the doors/ignition still work, but i have a red key to programme any other i make up. will let you know how i get on. |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Chieftain on Feb 28th, 2007, 11:27am Out of intrest my local Ford dealer will charge £90 for full diagnositc, new red key and 3 new black keys. Also I think they are good as a ABS diagnostic is £45 next dealer bristol street motors charge £75 |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Highlander on Feb 28th, 2007, 11:32am Thats a tremendous price, seems too good to be true |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Chieftain on Feb 28th, 2007, 12:14pm Yes it does but just had it as a quote in case I cant finally sort the ABS out. Also will try to have parts delivered same day if possible so car can be returned asp. Watch this space. |

Title: Re: Master key Post by taliban on Feb 28th, 2007, 9:54pm this is all very confusing ???, i only ever got the one black key with my scorp, no red key. i thought i better have a spare made so got one cut at a heel bar for a fiver, works fine..... |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Highlander on Feb 28th, 2007, 10:11pm Does it start the engine? maybe your PATS has been disabled? |
||
Title: Re: Master key Post by taliban on Feb 28th, 2007, 10:13pm yeah, starts engine, from what i remember, does all doors etc. will double check tomorrow.... |

Title: Re: Master key Post by tintin on Feb 28th, 2007, 10:39pm maybe red key in the car somewhere? like strapped near the PATS? or maybe none of us actually have immobilisors, and ford are charging for mythical red keys? ;D |

Title: Re: Master key Post by jonnycab on Mar 1st, 2007, 2:41am All this talk about red keys has me worried.. ....thinking back to when I bought my first Scorp in 2001, the seller gave me 3 keys...a red one, a black one with a red bit on top & a key with a push button light on it. When I bought my latest Scorp a year ago, I was only given the black key with the red bit on top & the key with the push button light on it (which works :o)...but no red key ??? Do you really need the red key if you have the black key with the red bit on top ? :-/ |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Alastair on Mar 1st, 2007, 7:58am The guy I bought my car from told me to keep the black key with the red dot in a safe place as it was the master key |

Title: Re: Master key Post by pinto on Mar 1st, 2007, 8:20am As long as you dont loose or break the red dot key, all will be fine :) - but its if you do loose it then problems start as you cant deactivate the PATS and you cant re-program another key without the red master key. The only option then would be to have the car recovered to a ford dealer where they replace the PATS module and resupply with a red master and 2 or 3 dot keys - a service which wouldnt leave you change from £500 or more :( Chieftans quote sounds almost too good to be true.. unless ford have had a change of heart ? :D |

Title: Re: Master key Post by Chieftain on Mar 1st, 2007, 8:30am I did think it was to goodas well, but they will honour that price if I take it in within the next 3 weeks, cant ask fairer than that. In fact when he was quoting he almost seemed to sound guilty that it was so much!! |

Title: Re: Master key Post by pinto on Mar 1st, 2007, 8:35am There is one possibilty... Looking at my brothers V-Tech Top engine diagnostic tester, theres an option for "immobiliser control", something ive yet had time to play with - perhaps ford have released the programming protocols to the aftermarket suppliers and its now possible to reprogram a blank red key to fit you PATS module ? That would be significantly cheaper |
