Still trying to get the ABS to work so toaday changed L/H/R sensor with a supposed good one, ignition on and now the ABS light does not go out as it usec to, fefitted old sensor and now same problem, does this sem to point that could be the problem area/

If you have a later Teves MK20 ABS Pump/Modulator, then the fault will only cure after an auto electrician has reset the codes in the modulator.

If you have an earlier Teves MK7 pump/modulator then the fault should cure once the faulty part is replaced.

Ok what I find odd though is that until i changed this sensor the system passed start up test and lit up at around 15mph. Now it will not go out, does that mean I have fixed the problem but need it reset, or the problem is still there. Is there a simple way to see which is teves is fitted, andd does auto electrician mean Ford or any decent aaaaauto electrician. CAr is P reg 24V Cosworth

On the older Teves (MK IV I believe), you would have to drive the car >15mph to turn off the light - of course, if the fault was still there then it won't turn off even above that speed. If your car has traction control then it should be the later Teves MK 20 which does need manually resetting. Ford should be able to do this, as well as any auto-electrician that regularly does ABS work.

Not sure that is completely true. I have a '95 16v with traction control, and have had the ABS light coming on, but went out again when I turned the ignition off and on again (and didn't come on later). So I don't think traction control has much to do with the Teves version.

(Pretty sure I have the Teves MK IV)

I'm probably wrong. Sure I read somewhere that was one of the reasons for the change over though... ???

My 95 Cossie has traction control AND a teves MK7.

Open the bonnet and look at the top of the unit.
The MK7 will have 2 pipes to the top and 3 pipes to the R/H side.
The MK20 will have all 5 pipes connected to the top.

Its that easy

Even though it is tipping down here though I would have a look at what type I had. looked under bonnet on right hand side (as you look at it) found what I thought was modualtor, large silve block with black pump? on top, found four pipes in and two more to the pumb, as this does not match descriptions what have i found or is cossie different again/

Just had a look at the workshop drawings and it seems the unit i described with four pipes is the erly version fitted up till 97. Will see what happend when i set of for work tommorow otherwise it may have to be MR Ford

Thanks thats the drawing I looked at and it confirms I have Mk7, nothing happend as i drove today lights still light, so switched ign on and off 3 times and now static test works, but still have fault >:( Mr Ford looms

Just adding another thing to look at - not wishing to confuse the direction you are heading down - I had the same issue with mine late last year. >15mph, the light came on - up until that speed, it went through the test OK. I thought initially that one of the wheel sensors had had their best days.

Then I lost the brake lights so replaced that fuse and it blew immediately as I touched the brakes again. The issue boiled down to the ABS electrical circuit and the 30A fuse on the battery side box had blown.

The source of the issue was the wiring loom which runs in front of the radiator - 6 wires had fused together just through sheer age. I distinctly remember having to replace the 30A fuse 6 months previous, due to me going through a lot of standing water. On that occasion, it was cured by a mere fuse replacement. But the loom decided to totally give up eventually.

Just something else for you to consider should nothing else work. The key to my issue was the 30A fuse was blown.

My abs and t/c lights are constantly on will they need resetting if the battery has been off for a while.
