Title: starter inhibitor bodge? Post by Chieftain on Mar 5th, 2007, 9:41pm Hi A while ago I posted a question as to what could be up with my starter inhibitor switch as I could start in any gear position. Told to check relay 11,checked it today or rather tried to as it is not there, terminals have been bridged with a piece of cble and spade connectors. To me this means that relay failed at some time and owner carried out this bodge to start car as and forgot about it. Would anyone agree with me/ |

Title: Re: starter inhibitor bodge? Post by Spannerdemon on Mar 5th, 2007, 9:56pm Very definitely!! :o May have been carried out as a Breakdown measure, or as a temp repair if the relay wasn't immediately available, but should certainly not have been left like that. These sort of BODGE repairs cause CAR FIRES The worrying thing is that if it HAD caught fire then your insurance company would probably not have paid out!! I'd certainly be looking at getting it sorted to original spec ASAP myself. You might just be lucky and be able to replace the relay. ;) |

Title: Re: starter inhibitor bodge? Post by Spannerdemon on Mar 6th, 2007, 11:14pm Great stuff. Much safer now. ;D I worked for an Auto Electrical firm for many years, and the number of burnt out cars I saw at dealers premises made me promise to myself never to take short cuts with car electrical wiring. ;) |
