i have a 96 2.0 auto and some times the speedo stops working and the gearbox seems jerky . when the speedo is working the car is great what is the problem and how do i sort it. :-/

i'm not sure. there is a difference between engines (think it's the number of teeth on the cog).

The MANUAL version of the scorpio has a VSS unit as well as the auto version... If that is broken then NO SPEEDO.... Although it will not affect the gear changes like it does in the auto version for obvious reasons..
I would be checking the VSS unit my self if I had no speedo.

ok thanks.

My speedo worked fine until I had to replace the engine ::). after replacing the engine the speedo doesn't work.
Can something have happened inside the gearbox?
Have checked all the cabels and it looks fine.

Any ideas? :-/

The speedo is electronic and has a unit fitted to the side of the gear box..... Sounds like you have either disconected it or broken a wire somewhere.

I found the problem with the speedo ;D

I guess that I didn't check all the cabels. Last night the car died while driving... The ground cabel to the generator wasn't proper attached. After fixing it the car and the speedo works fine again. :D
