Hello To EVERY ONE
I have a 2.5D Scorpio 1998, it starts up stright away small amount of smoke as with all diesels and runs at about 950 revs for a few mins and then down to 850rpm as normal no smoke, the smoke ( BLUE ) starts when I am moving and accelerating to changing gear if I keep the revs down then its alright , can some one out there please tell me the cause and how to cure it

THANK YOU Colin

hi there

blue smoke is burning oil. maybe a worn turbo seal?

don't really know anything about the td engine.

i get a little smoke when i first start up and pull away, then it clears and is fine.

its not loads of smoke just enough to be seen, like a haze

hi colin, im afraid it sounds as though it could be a worn turbo (take the small flexi inlet pipe off and check if there is much play in the turbine shaft), or possible worn valve seals or at worst worn cylinder bores/piston rings.

Also excessive turbo whistle could be an indication of a tired turbo.

Hello Every One THANK YOU for all the input and your time,  I am still not sure as what to make of it, but  I'll keep trying it's too nicer car to give up, unless it's going to cost me an arm & a leg
Regards Colin
PS any more information will be greatly received

First thing to check would be for any bearing play in the turbo, which should be easy enough to do and then go from there.

Where abouts in the country are you?

Matt

Before condemning the turbo, check that oil isn't being drawn into the intake through the crankcase breather system - there's a round 'thingy' with a rubber hose which pushes into the pipework near the air filter and this could be the source...

Hello Darren  I have checked the turbo shaft and there does not seem to any movement but I did notice that there was some oil in the rubber banjo pipe on the air intake side would this be the problem like you said, and if so how would I get over this
Kind Regards Colin

Probably a blocked or faulty breather thingy on the side of the engine, or the round thingy that goes into the air intake is faulty.  No idea how they come apart or how to diagnose/fix them though, sorry.

Darren
