Hi Guys,

Hoping some of you may be bale to help, I have a scorpio estate 1995, 2l 16v auto, for the last week when turning at low speeds I was getting a lot of vibrations and a grinding/moaning noise, checking out on here, I looked at the power steering fluid level and it had gone down to half the level of the bottle, topped it up seemed to be ok but then it goes through just over half the bottle in 2 days, finally got a chance to get under it to look at, the gaiters on the steering rack are covered in oil and are filled of fluid make a right old slushy noise when you squeeze them, would I be right in thinking that my steering rack has had it, just want to check before I order one and it turns out it is not the problem,

:-XFraid you need a new one, mine had the same problem last year, cost me £200 for a remanufactured one but I am sure you can get them cheaper now. If you do a search of the site you will find links to suppliers with good deals....

i was lucky to get a good one off my car when i wrote it off, but im afraid im keeping it for when mine goes

i had the same problem myself only a while ago, i got a new one done in my local garage, it cost just under £300 all in. Andy

I got a new rack for £186 from the local motor factors a couple of months back & fitted it myself.

It wasn't to difficult & only took a couple of hours.....but it all depends on if you are feeling brave or not ;)

there is a recon rack on ebay buy it now price of £140, if your old rack is serviceable they will give you £50 for it. item number 280108218946 ends 4th of may

Hi Yakker - I have steering rack from 1995 saloon - £25 plus postage if you want it.
