Post by maddoldbugger on May 8th, 2007, 8:39pm
2.3 scorp ultima

well i followed the instructions to find the error codes on my air con,, but
i came up with error 57,, and i attempted to reset but the error returns.

now i might be wrong but all the error codes are listed as 01   02 03 etc up to 11,, cant find error 57?

yeah i have little know how on air con so that might explain it..

Hi there, the 57 code is the same with 07 and points out to a faulty HBC

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/hbctest.htm

It usually disappears with a reset and comes in a few days, weeks .... My 2.3 does this but the AC beside the need of a re gas is OK.

well mine was regassed today and that error doesnt go away. i reset and seconds later its back..
i guess the HBC can hold off the air con then,, compressor clutch isnt getting a supply

hi there

no, the hbc only controls the blower fans speed. first check the WOT relay.

have a read of http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/airconelectrical.htm

was the system put into a deep vac for at least 30 mins?

hi there

there is a 'spare' connector down there, but the pressure switch plug is there as well. just follow the wiring.

I've had a 57 fault showing since on every air-con reset I've ever done since I've had the car but apart from a freezing incident earlier in the year (faulty ice switch, which 57 doesn't cover) there hasn't actually ever been anything actually wrong with my system.  So I would check that the fault is actually appropos of something before going to any efforts to fix it.

Cheers

I have the same code on mine... somtimes,  I find that if it's flashing then I hold the button in and it clears it after a few seconds,  ??? it refers to the hbc,
I have replaced all relevent parts, defrost switch, high pressure switch, outside temp sensor, module, satc etc etc but it still appears :-/, the air-con is working ok so I have decided to disregard it until someone comes up with the answer,  :Pwatch this space....

My main prob at the mo is that the cooling fans run at high speed all the time, bloomin nuisance

the compressor clutch never engages, so there is a fault some where..

ok didnt have a great deal of time but, managed to clear all errors in the cc,, still no go.. swapped the r24 relay for another (old one was hot)
still no go,
disconected the clutch and put 12v in, clutches perfectly and does cool , if it stops raining oi have another r25 so i best brake it open and check for volts.(dont wanna start digging in the loom)
if i have 12v there and its connecting as it should, it will be back to the pressure switch!

Does sound like a faulty pressure switch.... The one on the top of the drier. If you disconnect that do the fans stop?

To higher pressure in the system can also cause the fans to run on High speed as well.

As Snoopy says, too high a pressure will stop the compressor clutch and cause fans to be running on high all the time.  Has somebody overfilled the system (probably over-enthusiastic use of the DIY recharge cans as it's easy to not make a good seal and get an artificially low reading)?

BTW, R24 is not a normal relay - when it isn't powered the contacts will be closed and the compressor will run.  Flooring the throttle actuates the relay and cuts power to the compressor to give maximum engine power to the transmission.  Also, IIRC the brass link in position B9(?) has some bearing on the a/c compressor - is this fitted?

hhmmm dont think its high pressure as the clutch doesnt even engage on first starting,,,,low pressure,,eermm na just gass'd the system, all to specs (1000g) vac tested, etc,,

but faulty switch,, yeah could be,, need to check that once the rain stops then
many thanks snoopy

yes the r24 relay is N/C, normal relays are N/O, yup the link is there to, all ready copped that!!fanx

ok the plan tomorrow, im going to put a tempary link in pins 1 and 3 on the pressure switch plug(loom side), start it up check if the compressor runs.
if it does,, pressure switch fault
if it doesnt then de-ice switch

simple as that....isnt it?
