Title: SUNROOF MOTOR (HOPE FOR WORN NYLON GEAR)
Post by gerryw on May 11th, 2007, 5:01pm
Hi All,

I would just like to give some advice regarding the Sun Roof Motor nylon gear that attaches to the Spline that opens the Sun Roof Window.

As you may know, this nylon gear can get stripped and is obviously no use to man nor beast AND as far as I know, you cannot buy one from a Ford Parts Outlet which means fishing around to try and buy a S/H Sun Roof Motor with hopefully a decent Nylon Gear?

FEAR NOT! here is a URL for a USA seller of just this Nylon Gear and they give it a lifelong guarantee!!

The URL is: http://www.sunroofgears.com/  and the price is approx $50.00 (£26.00).

Hope this helps some of you Forum members as I have had plenty of help from you...

Regards
Gerryw
p.s. My Sun Roof sliding glass roof panels surround is badly rusted and I was wondering if one can just replace it instead of replacing the whole Sun Roof Cartridge?

Hi Gerry, just wondering, did you buy one from that site yourself?
Would love to get mine sorted one of the days,as summer is coming up.

Before the climate control packs up! ;D

Hi cossiejamie,

No I didnt but I did converse with them and myself. I sent them pics of the Nylon Gear and measurments etc and they checked their Nylon Gear with the Ford Nylon Gear and they were compatible.

I have no problem with saying that their Gear would absolutely fit into a Scorpio Sun Roof Motor!

Hope that gives you the confidence to purchase one especially as they have a lifetime guarantee, but you can go online and speak to them yourself!

I would have bought one myself but the S/H motor I bought worked but the Nylon Gear was broken on it, but my original Nylon Gear was OK, so I used it.

Cheers
Gerryw

That reminds me of a company I dealt with a  few years back. I was doing some work on the place and took down a wardrobe...kept the parts safe but chucked them in all the chaos ::)

Didn't want to hack it about with screws so looked in the yellow pages and found an engineering company...phoned them and the chap said send him a drawing of the part and he'd try and find me a match. 2 days later he phoned to say he'd matched it, only 16p each but they couldn't really send less than 10 - I only needed 6....he was so helpful that I bought 100 ::)

I still have 94 of them, it's called a dowel end bolt or something if anyone needs 94 or so of them, you wouldn't get them in B&Q but I doubt they'd fit the sunroof either, which makes this post off topic and a bit useless I guess ::)

Have some more instead!!

£26 seems a bit steep for a nylon cog, I bought a replacement motor via Ebay for less. Maybe someone could do a bulk deal with them and offer them in the UK for a bit less?

Hi Fidget,

Yeah, your probably right, but you do take a chance on the S/H motors nylon gear being OK (what do you do if it is broken, buy another S/H motor)?

I suppose its a choice that one has to make and see how it goes...

cheers

p.s. the USA nylon gear is guaranteed for life though?

The cog on my broken motor was okay, so I knew it would be a safe bet on that occasion, but I see your point.

Come to think of it, it would be really useful if someone would retail the relay that's stuck to the PCB (that's what failed on mine). You can buy them, but only in bulk.

Fidget, relays aren't anything special mate, as long as it's got the right coil voltage and contact current it should work fine :). Chances are you could get a similar one from almost any electronics retailer.

Hi TiberiuS,

Always nice to know where one can go to get the lowdown on the Scorpio electricals, but, as I am not one of the best in that department, mechanical ok but electricals... probably blow myself up... lol

Anyway, you may be able to help  me, I have to replace the temperature sender switch (Scorpio Cossie 1997)  but I have not got a clue where the hell it is and how I get to replace it (I have the new part by the way)?

Can you point me in the right direction?

Cheers
Gerryw
