Title: Rev counter erractic on Ultima 2.9 12v
Post by samg on May 15th, 2007, 4:44pm
Hi,
The rev counter on my 2.9 12v Ultima auto Estate is waving up and down even on tick over.
Where is the sensor located?

Regards,

Sam

It takes the pulse from the distributor, the wiring diagrams are here Wiring Diagrams (http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra_el.html)

Even though it says sierra ... It IS for the Scorpio.

Hi Dave,

Have checked link unfortunately, I can not see any details for rev counter.

is the sensor a seperate module connected to distributor? or could it be the rev counter itself.

regards,
Sam

Hi,

There is no "sensor". It takes a pulse from the LT side of the ignition.

IMHO provided your engine is running ok then it is more likely that your rev counter is faulty.  ;)

Regards Dave.

Many thanks Dave,

The engine is running very sweet after  oil change, new oil filter, air filter, new spark plugs and a bottle of Cataclean in the fuel tank, what a difference the Cataclean made to the c o readings.

As you say, it must be the rev counter, I will try to pickup one from local breakers yard,

Thanks again,

Sam

You will have to get the WHOLE unit the Rev counter is NOT a seperate item.
