Title: Non starter
Post by mrgraves on May 19th, 2007, 3:09pm
hello all

i have a 2.0l 8v which i cant get to start the engine turns but will not engage and there is no spark i have repaired faulty looms as a temperary measure (they were not in the worst condition but are definatly on there way) and all my fuses and relays seem to be in working order (no sign of water damage).

the only other thing i can think of is the coil pack which i can order used for 32 quid

has anyone got any suggestions before i order them please
???

hows the fuse boxes? check for damp in there, and also under the glove box. a damp ecu/pats module will disable the car.....

cheers

hi there

hows the battery? the scorpio needs a lot of voltage to start.

have you tried using a different key? do you have the red master key?

Unless both coil packs are done (unlikely) the engine should still give a cough and a splutter, so dont buy them yet.

Pats ok?
EDIS module below the coolant reservoir? can you try another module? loom ok?
Fuel cut off switch in the boot?
Has the battery been off? connected up properly?
Try jump leads as battery can seem ok as Andrew said

Did this happen overnight or has starting the car gradually got worse over time ?  :)

it happened over night was running fine the day before - i dont have the red key i brought the car 6 months ago and it only came with one key, the fuel cut off also seems to be ok, and yes the battery has been disconnected since as i drained it trying to solve the problem on the first day it happend

Theres a small black cable on the -ve terminal which is easily missed when reconnecting the battery.

sounds like the car is immobilised, i had exactly the same issue when my ecu/ccm got wet.

check the PATS light on the dash, is it flashing in a pattern/staying on? may be the key has "forgotten", may be the CCM is knacked, may be wiring has been disturbed

my 2.3 did this turned out to be  crank sensor wire had broke so if crank and cam sensors dont talk to ecu...... no spark and no engine damage.plus a mate left the cam sensor off his volvo after changing the engine and that would not go either.
