Title: Howto reach connector C410 under the Central Ju...
Post by Cosray - The Hague - Holland on Jun 15th, 2007, 8:38pm
Hi all,

many, many recurring errors in older Scorpio's electrics are caused by connector C410 - a biggy sitting just under the Central Junction Box P91, next to the windshieldwiper.

(See: TIS 0009; Scorpio Workshop Companion CD-ROM - I have it here should anyone want it.)

That's the one facing the driver in both LHD and RHD cars.
It sits upwards in the footwell space, just under the CJB location, and can be touched by breaking your arm and shoulder reaching up from under the dataconnectordoor.

This bad connector C410 causes a.o.

- injectors not to fire, ABS and TCS not to work, disabling Global Closing and Remote Closing, electric windows not closing nor opening; the gong not working when door open etc.

Once you open the dash, taking off the fascia, this connector sits behind a crashbar and the heater's sideventpipe. It is shielded by a heavy soundmatting and holds an at least 60-lead loom.

Anybody having a good suggestion how to reach this conector other than thumping it in an upward motion with an upsidedown beerbottle?

Without dismantling the mechanics & electronics in that space, including the Airbag sensor and electronics?

Please answer this question when you've done this yourself - no guessing please...

Ray

Today I managed to do the job helped by your suggestions.

I gathered some courage and this aft I went right in - into the drivers footwell.

Dismounted battery; unclamped big drainwell multiplug on driverside fusebox.
Took the underside of the dash off, the one with the hoodrelease and the coinbox;took off the dataconnector.
Disengaged the hoodreleasecable; just shift the mantle out of the wedge and unhook the innercable.
Took off the floppy cover with the footwelllight.
Left the lightbulb dangling.

Put in a worklamp; collected several tools.
Put thick foamrubberprotection (for my back!) over the doorstep and took off the fat soundcover off the underside of the fusebox by removing 2 large plastic nuts sitting on 2 of the 4 threads.

By squeezing in hard I managed to turn sideways, look straight up and view the 4 nuts holding the fusebox down and managed to unscrew then using an 8mm spanner.

Pulled out the net covering the cables, held at 4 corners by plastic clamps. Macro-photographed the lot and looked at my camera's display for orientation. Also I used a make-up mirror!

My plan was to lift the fusebox out of the drainwell but, since a number of very thick powercables were stuck I decided to just sprayclean the multiplug connectors organised in 4 rows of - seen from wheelside - blue, green, white and black, from underneath and not remove the fusebox.

Unplugged, sprayed, rinsed, dried, plugged them back in.
The connectors had been untouched almost 12 years and some corrosion, especially on the power-carrying ones, is unavoidable.
Tested - all functions OK!

Reversed the process slowly, testing at each step; connecting batterypower on and off.

3 hour job and a stiff back and elbow- and shoulderjoints that only a Famous Grouse will cure - but worth it:

Powerwindows working again as well as seatmemory, powermirrors (connector C410, the middle black one), remotecontrol, centrallocking etc. All systems seem stable.

Anyone needing advice mail me - I am a pro now!

Someone tell me though how I can include my pics here?

Ray

Well done that man!  :)

To display pictures you need to download them into a free photo hosting programme like Photobucket.

Once you've done this, simply go to the 'image' tag which is above the smilies in the main reply settings on this site (looks like a photo in a frame) and copy and paste the IMG line from the photobucket picture that you want to display.

Photobucket is free, and HERE (http://photobucket.com/)
