Title: Engine won't turn over
Post by bizzay1 on Jun 16th, 2007, 9:48pm
Well, the wife went out in the 2.3 this morning, only went to a friends house about a mile away, on the way there she said the car was making a rattling/banging sound and when she stopped & got out said it sounded like a diesel.
Well she parked it at her mates house and they went into town for a couple of hours and when she returned the engine won't turn over - I've just got it back home on the back of a recovery truck, and I think the engine is seized cos I can't turn it over with a spanner on the front pully (tried both ways) so once I confirm it I may end up scrapping it :(

Crikey mate, oil starvation?

Haven't heard of anything that severe before, maybe (hope) it's something less serious?

Regards, Bruce.

would failed bearings in the water pump/power steering also be bad enough to stop it cranking?

Haven't had a chance to look at it today, was my lads birthday, but as long as the rain holds off I'll try to start eliminating things tomorrow.
My gut feeling is it's seized though, but I'll start by removing the belt, then take the starter out, and go from there

Automatic m8, at least that is one area that I can eliminate straight away

finally had enough of a break in the weather to get under and remove the starter & I have deduced that the engine has seized so: - http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=cars;action=display;num=1182616611;start=0#0

If I find a bucketful of enthusiasm and maybe a dry day I might have a probe around if nobody is interested in her as a complete car.
