Title: Loom problems?
Post by Kjetil S on Aug 15th, 2007, 8:20pm
Hello,

as the OBD section isn't the most visited, I'm posting a link to my problem thread here (as it is technically both a problem and it's dealing with OBD  ;)):

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OBD;action=display;num=1187183138

Any suggestions?

Can’t offer much help, but with my blue lead it took several attempts before it connected.
The same happened with my TriCom. I was convinced there was a problem with the wiring, had the socket apart to check the connectors etc all to no avail. After many attempts when I’d just about given up it just started working I’ve not had any trouble since. Even managed to connect to some of the other modules.

I assume you’ve entered your Software ID.

“To register software press connect in main menu, the program will identify serial port and attempt to connect.
Press terminate or end button, after the save file prompt you will see a dialog box with letters "off-line" delete this and enter your software ID number.”

Yes, the software is registered and should work perfectly.

Did you change any settings or disturb any wiring when it started working for you?

I had messed about with everything! including removing and reinstalling the software several times.
But no changes between the last time it didn't work and the first time it did.
Of course it might of been the last of the many waggles of the plug that got it going.

Just noticed in the log in your other thread you're using version 1.52, that's the one that scorpio_man says doesn't work.

That may be. You wouldn't happen to have the old version lying around somewhere?

It's on it's way,
as it's an exe file let me know if it gets blocked & I'll try zipping it.

just found ver 1.51 but don't think it matters much.

Came back as Illegal Attachment
so tried giving it a different extension.

Popped outside to test. It did the exact same thing. Seems to find the tricom lead, but can't get a response from the car.  :(

I tried some of the tips here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/usingobd.htm) as well, without luck.

Oh well, it's down to wiggling cables then. Does anyone know which pins on the plug ends up where? I've had a look at the 'sierra' site, but the OBD schematics were a bit complicated, but it seems like most of them end up somewhere on the CCM.

I'll have a look at the laptop & send the settings that work for me

Thanks, that will be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, the connectors from the OBD socket go direct to the ECU :-/

Hmm, yes. You're probably right. The schematics do say PCM (which should be the same as the ECU). It will probably be clearer after some sleep  :)

I assume you're using a serial cable, I think I may have slowed a setting to get it to talk to the CCM, can’t remember for certain. Have just tried it on the car to make sure, worked fine.

No luck.

What speed setting are you using on the com port (not in the program, but in windows)?

Bits per sec 57600
Data bits 8
Parity none
Stop bits 1
Flow control Xon/Xoff

Windows 98
P120

Did you delete all the old files, or check it's gone back to version 1.51

I deleted the whole folder and extracted 1.51
