Title: HELP! Disconnecting multiplug to heated windscreen Post by dbrotzen on Aug 18th, 2007, 4:55pm I'm trying to replace the instrument cluster. To do this I've removed airbag, steering wheel, sound system and, almost, almost the fascia. What remains is to "Disconnect the multiplugs to the heated windscreen and rear window (if fitted)" as it says in the manual. I can't make it come off and I don't want to break it. This multiplug seems different from all the others in that there doesn't seem to be a retainer on it. Anyone with experience?? |

Title: Re: HELP! Disconnecting multiplug to heated windsc Post by mr._floppy on Aug 19th, 2007, 1:00am dbrotzen, I too had this problem, these two multiplugs are overdesigned and, unless you have three hands, are bloody awkward to disconnect. I cut my hand badly when trying to remove one of them the last time I had the dash off. >:( With a screwdriver break off the piece of plastic that acts as a locking device for the plug . Once this is removed the effort required to remove the plug is lessened and, with a small thin screwdriver, just lever the plug out from the connector. |

Title: Re: HELP! Disconnecting multiplug to heated windsc Post by Highlander on Aug 19th, 2007, 8:31am I wouldnt advise breaking them! i've removed them dozens of times but never had to break one yet! are you removing the heater panel from the dash first as if you arent this will make it a lot more difficult |

Title: Re: HELP! Disconnecting multiplug to heated windsc Post by dbrotzen on Aug 19th, 2007, 9:00am Thanks all! I got the fascia out without disconnecting the rear window heater multiplug. As I didn't want to break it, and I thought it might have gotten stuck on my car rather than being engineered that way, in the end I let it sit there. The cables were under strain however. I wonder what made the engineers choose this solution? All other cables came off easily. Oh well. |
