Title: Cosworth rebuild
Post by Matt on Aug 19th, 2007, 9:30pm
hey all

got a problem with the cossie,

replaced the cylinder heads and bolted all back up but when running (idling and still) the reves will shoot up and stay up, this can happen from first turn of the key or it will happen after 5 mins of the car idling perfectly, checked all vac lines there ok, last time it shot up it was after i moved the steering wheel so im kind of thinking it may be something to do with the ps pressure switch

need any help to diagnose

my idle was giving me gip for ages, turned out the garage had put the idle control valve back on back-to-front. mine rose sharply, then dropped again after a set amount of time. worth a check....

I'd start with the TPS, maybe coming out of idle range and enriching the fuel mix and making the engine race. Kept happening on the Jag when I bought it, 3000rpm idle in rush hour traffic...not fun :-X

Didn't you say the looms were shot? Maybe it's a loom gremlin?

Good luck :)

thanks for the suggestions

well almost got it sorted now, its not racing up any more, swapped the loom for my 98's one, not an easy task i can tell you!

still a small problem but i think that maight be cured by dropping the battery off and letting the ecu reset, its had a pounding with the bat on and off and with the car starting and going straight to 3000 rpm its prob configured its self wrong

got a sucking sound which is gonna be an air leak, think it may be in the inlet, but thats not to much of a problem,

she sounds almost sweet as a nut now, i think after a few runs it will all settle in nicely

Sounds like it's sucking air some where but also sounds like you know that now!
