Title: Help !!!! it's a nightmare...so it is !!!!!
Post by kevin_R on Aug 29th, 2007, 4:53pm
[b]Hi Guys...
Please can you help me.... three weeks ago the scorp started to high rev when driving along for no reason and the O/D light is flashing constantly..also the speedo has stopped working.
The scorp feels like the gearbox doesn't know what gear to go into....an auto electrician suggested that it may be the Vehicle speed sensor £65 from Fords..i have changed it ...the speedo still doesn't work and the minute i set off the O/D light starts flashing when it does into the next gear....the only thing that the new part seems to of done is stop the engine revving up whilst i drive along.....
the auto guy also suggested that the speedo it's self may have gone...but i tried my spare clock but it has made no difference....just a thought....could it be something to do with the ignition wiring loom ?
can any of you experts out there throw some light onto this problem of mine ?
Thank you very much
Kevin_R

Sounds like the VSS has packed up... About £30 for a brand new one from FMD and quite an easy DIY job .... Its located on the nearside of the gearbox... Use of a high lift ramp is an advantage although others who have done the job will no doubt advise as well.

It could be something with the gearbox wiring loom atleast. That would give the same symptoms as a faulty VSS. I had that problem on mine last year. Quite easy to replace, actually. Got a used but working loom from a member on here.

hi kevin

give the loom connection 'boxes' a clean out with wd40/contact cleaner. the 2 boxes on the o/s inner wing with the 10mm? nut on the top.

if the car has been lying for a while, they might have got a bit damp.

hth

This sounds very similar to my trip home from London. constantly changing gears, o/d light flashing, and pressing like a boy racer on the pedal to get nowhere fast.

I dreaded the possibilities and as a first (and easiest) course of action I cleaned the MAF. It cured everything at a stroke and the little sweetheart runs like a dream.

So does my heart now and I felt like doing what the old pope used to do and get down on all fours and kiss the Scorp.

Certainly with regard to the above it could be the Fuel Cut-off Loom, but can’t say as far as the other symptoms go.
Mine was generally OK till I put my foot down, then it took a while to decide what to do.
Going up steep hills it was very reluctant to change down.
After changing the loom it gets on with changes instantly.
The trouble with loom damage is you can’t give a definite answer, the symptoms will vary from car to car.
