Title: Various problems with 24v
Post by Pete_M on Sep 20th, 2007, 1:19pm
Greetings and all that, I'm new to this forum so, as always, I have a million probably easy to sort issues with my Ultima. I've only owned it for a few days and am in the motor trade so I figured the best thing to do was to ask people who own them what the likely causes of these wonderful issues are. So here I am.

Car is a '98 Scorpio Ultima 24v, 82k miles

Questions are as follows;

Do the VSS modules often pack in, or is it more likely to be a dodgy connection? The speedo only works intermittantly, and the dash test points at the sensor.

ABS / TC lights I suspect to be a rear wheel sensor - as I've got most of an old Mk3 Granada Scorpio knocking around in bits (which the ABS worked on) can I use the rear sensors off that?

I've been through the dash test sequence and all seems to be good other than the speed reading and the switch resistance for the "R" button on the trip.

Oh, and the headlamp washers are missing...

1. Yes they do quite often
2. Granada sensors had three contacts instead of two so no i dont think they will work
3. Did you have headlamp washers originally and they have been removed (holes in the bumper)? not all models had them.
4. Hello and welcome to the site :)

Right, so where the best (read that as cheapest) place to get a VSS from? Strangely, since I posted earlier it's almost been behaving...

As for the headlamp washers, yup, there are holes in the bumper, but I notice there don't seem to be any h/washers knocking about on ebay.

I take it this means that they're
A: easily damaged
B: mindbogglingly expensive from Ford,
C: Highly prized by Scorpio owners...

Mine should be silver, if anyone has any...

The headlight covers came in black only, they dont damage too easily but yes they are expensive and very rarely come up second hand.

VSS can be bought cheapest from http://www.fordpartsuk.com/

The speedo has come back to life. All is well again. Don't know if it was because the car hadn't been used for a while but it's been 100% today, which is nice.

Need to find a way of sorting the blank radio display problem now, missed out on a replacement 7000RDS by 50p on ebay.

That and the rear abs sensors. Need to have a look at those.

There are plenty of radios on ebay. Reckon on paying about £20-25, plus posting. john.n ;)

The headlamp washers are about £60  :o from Fords, there was one,n/s facelift, on ebay that sold for £27, so they do come up. I bought one for about same several weeks before, so keep looking.
