Title: Front fog lights.
Post by Slipknot on Oct 1st, 2007, 5:15pm
Hello guys!
I have 1 problem. My Scorpio has no front fog lights, but i want to put them and get them burnin'....They just don't want to work :o. Any ideas or/and suggestions for what do i have to do? What devices do i need? ???

Thanks anyway!

Hi

im guessing your car did not have front fog light originally and you have fitted them,

first, have you got the correct headlight switch, i.e. does it pull out 2 notches (front fogs first then rear fogs)

Next, you will need to fit the front fog light relay into the main fuse box (see your owners manual) you also need to install a relay in the cabin just under the steering wheel (again see the owners hand book)

Hi Slipknot
let me know how you get on (a couple of photos would be great). I have front fogs lying on the bench and am just about to get on with the fitting.

Hi Matt
where about in the manual for the additional relays, please, I was kind of hoping that as some cars were fitted with front fogs as standard, the wiring / relays would be tucked away somewhere

Thanks guys

Alastair

Hello Matt!
Yes, i fitted the correct switch, and the panel too... it notches 2 times and each time starts to burn one indicator for fog lights, first front and te the back.

What is that relay under the steering wheel, how does it looks and how can easyly identify it? Sorry, but i don't have the owners book :(

to Alastair: You have to wait a lil' bit, sorry i don't have the camera at the  time....but i'll make them.

The handbook is on the site HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/handbook.htm). Relay 35 which is white and listed as 'underneath the instrument panel' controls the front fog lights. When you select a page from the handbook if you click on the bottom right hand corner the page will enlarge.  :)

the wireing should be all there and waiting,

the relays will need to be fitted

(there is like a forest, so many wires and stuff)

Thank you.

Yes Pete i understood, but haven't seen anything, that looks like a place for a Plug of Relay.

If I recall I think there is a relay strapped in the vacinity of under the steering column area.... Cor I wish I'd taken photos of the wireing as I stripped it all out.... :-X

Is there anybody else, who can help me with my problem and tell me the exact location?

My guess would be that 'under the instrument panel' means tucked up above the trim panel above your feet/shins as you drive. There is a tray there containing the cruise control plus other bits and this would be a sensible place for it.

Another way to be certain you have found the correct socket, would be to check the ciruit diagram for the wire colour codes leading into R35's socket. I think I correct in suggesting that any white Ford relay will do.

I can't think of any good reason for any of the fog light wiring to to be under the steering wheel or in the column.

i found 1 connector where  should be a relay, but i don't know if this the one. It's green and it has 5 pins, 2 of them are + positive.....but now relay. maybe this is the 1??? What relay should be there. I know white 1, but what numbers it should have???

Heh, i tested the green socket and it's for front glass wiper speed control.
Still no luck with the R35....HELP Me PLEASE!  :-[

Maybe someone is braking  a Scorpio or knows someone who does...so he can help me to locate this bloody Relay!?  ???

Have you removed the shroud round the steering column as mentioned earlier?.

Hi
It says (NL, S) for relay 35 so I assume unless the car was for those countries you don't need it.
I don't think you've mentioned if you've checked for R9 in the central fuse box (although I don't know if that is for the front or rear fog lights).

R9 relay i have installed.

Here's another thing!
On other Scorpio forum 1 guy had no Foglight like i do, but these lights installed an electrician. He told that he just installed the light, swicth and have removed 1 short circuit. tha da! and that were all he made.
Maybe i just need to remove this short circuit too?
Any advice or thoughts on this 1?

OK thank you for the help!
I got them working at last! I figured out that all working and voltage come to them, but on R9 (Front Fog Lights) i had no ground ''-''.  So i just took ground from the R14 (Day Time Runing Lights) and tha da. The R9 now works! I can switch on and off them at any time!

About R35 Thingy... i think I don't have it in my wiring. I was reading Diagrams for Switzerland(Zurich) That is where my Car were sold from Main Ford Dealer!

Maybe this will help someone!

Now i Passed MOT.
Had probs with ABS stays on all the time and Fog Lights. ABS Rear sensor were unplugged and my ABS is now failing at second test. it's enough to pass the MOT :P

Thank you for all the info about ABS(was readind on the forum) and Fog Lights ;D
