MY `96 24v auto had a puncture on the front, and a very slow one on the back (other side tho). My bro works for kwik fit mobile, so he sorted the back. The front 2 were badly worn so he put used ones on with plenty of tread but they are 225 55 16 (not 50). Now tho, i pull away fast car ok plod along at 30mph or more (2000rpm) ish and traction kicks in! On the straight, going slow. It cant be the tyres, pulling away fast from a junction turning its ok, its after i straighten up it does it.
Anyone got any ideas? Did he jack it up wrong? I wasnt with him when he did it. Sure i read the front sags or something when both wheels have been jacked up at the same time?
Or is this about to get expensive?!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi there

i would imagine that because you are running different size tyres front to back, it's confusing the t/c into thinking that traction has been broken (wheels turning at different speeds).
i'd change the tyres back to what they should be (might be an insurrance issue as well :-/). they're you're only contact with the ground. ;)

iirc, the traction control only works upto 50mph.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Do you think it would make any difference if i put the 55`s on the back? On the front at the moment. I now drive round with the tct turned off! Funds are low at the moment. The last tyre i bought was £127.50 for a Continental, and that was the one that went down slow!

Try furrows ford at telford I bought two tyres for my cossie £78 But I had to fit them

You might just get away with the 55's on the rear,
the two sets of tyres are different circumferances so the bigger ones (the 55's) are turning slightly slower than the 50's
The Traction control system senses the front tyres are turning at a different speed (slower) to the rears and interprets this to mean the rears have lost traction (turning faster/wheelspin) this causes it to operate the traction control.

IF the bigger 55's were on the rear they would be travelling slower than the front, the traction control should'nt then operate (I dont think) but you may well get ABS kicking in (although i think that works on individual axles)

Try it and see and let us know ;D

OK i`ll give that a whirl the weekend see if it makes any difference. MY bro should get it done quicker with all the proper equipment. And i`m having a look at a cossie for him tomorrow, so he may be a new owner by saturday! Is a R reg ghia cos 104k worth £995?

Only if all its tyres are the same size ;)

dependant on condition etc it sounds like a fair price

Just had a look at that car. No rust on arches, odd ding and scratch, but receipts for steering rack, gearbox, brakes, loads and yes tyres ;)
Only thing is its not an ultima, only ghia :'(

Hi jamie.Just to let you know BMCR tyres in birmingham are doing 225,50,16 avon zz3,s for £70 each :o :o Only while stocks last though ::).Had 4 fitted to the estate & i must say they grip really well but are quite noisy :-/.Is this cossie ghia in sheldon??? I had a look at one yesterday,a state blue ghia which was fairly tidy BUT he wouldnt let ME start the car (from cold).I had to wait in the office for it to be brought round :o :o.Took him 5 mins of warming up before i could have a look :-/ Alarm bells rang so i left him too it.The garage was on the A45 near the wheatsheaf.Let me know how your kid gets on ;)

Yes it was! I had a go round the block in it, it sounded ok but possibly exhaust blowing a bit. My bro loved it and we got it for £750. It doesnt sound a bit tappety like mine when i start up from cold for a few secs. All in all he is pretty pleased with it and thinks it shifts well too. And his last car was an escort turbo! He is a mechanic anyway, so can fix anything that goes wrong.
Everything works on it too, but not much on it as its a ghia and has an alloy spare. Expect a new member on here soon, and to see us both at the next mids meet!
