Title: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by proberjohn on Oct 15th, 2007, 7:05pm Car's in local garage again for it's 2nd new NS lower suspension arm. The last two lasted less than 6 months each!!!! Bushes failing. Petroly smell traced to fuel tank leak. New suspension arm and tank coming tomorrow. Anyone else getting through arms?? John B. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by Pete_M on Oct 15th, 2007, 8:00pm is the tank leaking on the O/S, viewable through the o/s/r wheelarch? only asking because mine's leaking there. Dry as a bone underneath, but wet at the top. I was hoping it'd be a slightly leaky connection rather than a fubar tank. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by proberjohn on Oct 15th, 2007, 8:20pm Not sure where leak is, frequent smell of petrol and fuel spilling down OS of tank when it got pressurised (filled it then the sun came out and it was right uo in the filler pipe, etc). I was hoping for a cheap rubber pipe but told it's leaking on the flange. New tank @ £162 my garage says. John B. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by Highlander on Oct 15th, 2007, 10:39pm John the bushes shouldnt go as quick as that, I'd put money on it that they have fitted them wrongly. Is it front/ rear or both bushes failing? The bushes can be replaced without needing a new wishbone. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by scorpio_man on Oct 16th, 2007, 8:20am hi john i agree with stuart... not fitted correctly. >:( there was a faulty batch from ford, but it was the balljoint that was failing. make sure the rear (big) bush is fitted like this (http://www.anyboard.net/autos/cars/scorpio/posts/130.html). big bush is 7307905 small (insulator) bush is 7372344 hth |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by jonnycab on Oct 16th, 2007, 10:58am They probably torqued up the wishbones whilst the car was still in the air. In order for the bushes to be seated properly with an equal clockwise & anti-clockwise strain on them, they have to torqued up with the weight of the vehicle on them ;) Stuart, I never heard of a faulty batch of wishbones before, how long ago was this ? :) |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by jonnycab on Oct 16th, 2007, 11:43am Sorry Andrew, I called you Stuart ::) Interesting to know about the wishbones. That's around the same time as I bought mine, so they might be worth checking :) Cheers ;) |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by mr._floppy on Oct 16th, 2007, 3:27pm Was it an MOT failure ? Can't see how they can fail after 6 months. Must've been fitted wrongly. :'( ..........and tell 'em not to throw away the spacer, it's there for a reason !! |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by big_neil on Oct 16th, 2007, 8:34pm read my bit on susp arms proberjohn, i have had at least 6 new arms fitted on my ultima(faulty ball jts. not bushes) in the 6 years that i,ve owned it, some were not even lasting 12 mths, most of them were renewed by ford under warranty as eventually they realised that they had a faulty batch as andrew says. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by cuzza on Oct 16th, 2007, 10:04pm just bought bushes ....rear of wishbone £14 each....front....£8 each FMD ... 8) |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by jonnycab on Oct 17th, 2007, 1:06am Cuzza, I know you can burn the front bushes out, but how are you going to get the new ones in ?.......Do you know someone with a 10 ton press ? ;) ...& what about the ball joints ?...surely if the bushes need replacing then the ball joints must surely be past their best :) |
||
Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by mr._floppy on Oct 17th, 2007, 1:24am Yeah, I spent a few wasted hours trying to remove the front bushes from the wishbone. I gave up, sold the bushes on E-Bay, and ordered a complete new wishbone jonnycab is right, the balljoint will be shot too. |

Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by scorpio_man on Oct 17th, 2007, 7:52am hi there the replacing the front bush isn't that bad. it can be tapped back on with a large socket. ;) i have to agree that i won't replace the bushes again, i'd just replace the whole wishbone. i only got a couple of months out of them when i had the balljoints go. hth |
||
Title: Re: More Wishbones (& Petrol Tank) Post by cuzza on Oct 17th, 2007, 9:24pm i have a press at work ;) ;) but you can draw bush out with a socket (and some suitable lubricant tyre soap or washing up liquid)and a long bolt and replace the same way,or grind of the end with a angle grinder and knock out or burn it out .... :P but if your not mechanically minded you may want to fork out the money for new wishbones ...ball joints don,t tend to go that often ......and moneys better in your pocket than someone else,s....... ;D total time with wishbone of car 30 mins ;D |
