Title: Squeak from heater/blower
Post by amigafan2003 on Oct 17th, 2007, 7:28pm
Hey all, wondering if anyone could help me?

I have an Ultima with CC and when I have the blower set in the first quarter of it's range (i.e. very slow to slow), I get a squeak from the blower/ducts.  This also happens when the blower is set to auto and the fans slow down.

One other very wierd issue is that when the car has warmed up, I get a sound of what sounds like dead leaves blowing around in the air ducts but ONLY happens if I turn sharply left or right - weird huh?

Any ideas what might be causing either of these two issues and what I might try to resolve it.  BTW, the clocks are coiming out on Friday to be replcaed with a new set, so I'll already have half the fascia off.

Many thanks.

Rob.

Its your Fan bearings thats worn or elongated fan shaft had that on a capri I used to have many years ago, other than taking the heating sytem apart, try not to use that setting on the heater fan,
regarding the leaves can't help with that one i'm afraid

Have a read of THIS article (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fanrepair.htm) and see if that helps with the sqeak.

The Granada used to do that low speed squeek. If you can find a way to get to them, a little oil on the bearings fixes it for a while.

The rustling leaves noise (sounded like trickling water to me) might be the same one I found... I traced it to rubbing between trim panels of the dash assembly. Only seemed to happen at certain temperatures and placing a hand on a crtain spot on the dash would stop it.

I agree, happened on a couple of my past Granadas, I put up with it until I had to pull the last one apart then I did as harry said and oiled the bearings.  Incedently a good grease is chain saw grease well worked in it stayed on mine for the rest of its life (40,000)
