Title: CHRISTINES PLAYIN UP SPEEDO NOW!!
Post by STUTET74 on Oct 20th, 2007, 2:19pm
Ive replaced light at the back, washed her, hoovered her, maybe she'll be happy!
One thing tho, my rear suspension does not seem to self level, I think its got it (Ghia X), fuse seems ok, could it be the relay? How would i Know? And right hand side of heated windscreen not working, again fuse looks ok?
Wife dont like the car, maybe thats its problem!!!!!!!!! :-/
After having the clutch replaced Im having more probs. First the fuse for the rear lights went this morning, then for the engine management, and tonight on my way into work the speedo has just stopped working!!!! God help me, if I won the lottery id take her banger racing!!
Any ideas on the speedo, do you think when clutch has been replaced they have poss moved something delicate??

Yeah the suspension is not electric.
You must have got mixed up with something else?

Speedo.
The speed sensor is on the rear of the gearbox.
Check that either the wiring has not been damaged or if they connected it back up when they did the clutch.

regards the suspension, it tells me in my manual that fuse number 30 on the auxilary fuse box is for self levelling suspension, and I have a fuse there. It also tells me relay 20 is for self levelling suspension, and I have one of those too. So if its not electrical why do I have spaces and fuses in my box? These are on pages 133/134 of the owners guide.

Well the estate is defo not electric, I can't actually say I have seen a Saloon with it ???

As I said with the speed sensor, maybe the wiring got damaged or the sensor plug etc.
Check it out.

The very early models did have a compressor fitted to work the suspension so possibly thats where the confusion is?

but it could have been built 94 and registered as an S

here is the fusebox layout http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/battery_fusebox.gif

have a look underneath and see if its fitted, you may just have the fuse and relay

Alternatively if you pm me you reg number i can check if it was fitted from new

Unless the previous owner just put the fuse & relay in to see if the suspension did self level......& just left 'em there & forgot about it  :-/........ :)

Stutet.....Have you actually looked at the rear shocks ?

Does it have the standard looking shocks or do they look a lot bulkier..ie...self levellers ?  :)

Also, can you fit self levellers into a saloon ?....in a saloon the shocks are mounted behind the spring, in an estate they are mounted inside the spring....so wouldn't the fittings be different ?  :-/

It was an option Jonny but i've never seen them on a saloon.

I assume the saloon set up is different to the estate

How are you getting on with it stu ? Got that speedo sorted yet ?.Had a word with one of the old boys at the main dealers today. He seems to think that the saloon was not fitted with self levelling suspension even though the provision for all the gubbings is still there.Aparently the only different rear end set up fpr the 16v saloon was for the "sport pack" option, which consisted of slightly upgraded shocks & stiffer springs.Sounds like a previous owner may have tried fitting the fuses & relays to see if it works, then left them there ...As mentioned previously.

It is fitted with sports pack. It had the uprgraded interior and supspension etc. Just seems that wheel arches are low at the back.

Sagging springs maybee. Was it like that when you brought it ? If not how much towing have you done recently ?.Some motor factors sell "spring assisters" which are plastic "cups" which sit in the coils of your springs & stop the suspension from sagging excessivley when towing.Fitted some to my old mk3 estate because of the loads i sometimes carried & they actually work....BUT make the ride VERY harsh.
