Title: speedo/no speedo o/d light flashes and flashes not
Post by ghia-cossie on Nov 10th, 2007, 6:58pm
hello

i own a scorpio cossie BOB with autobox.

i restored the wiring loom cause it was a complete horor.

take the car for a drive end no speedo and al speed related functions didnt work.

so i got it obd tested and the folowing code came up:

p0500 vss no signal
p1746 epc solenoid open circuit

the vss was fine but the ground en signal wire were mixxed up so sorted it and stil no speedo.
an hour later i parke3d teh car and the speedo works without doing anything to it, so went for a ride and everything worked fine cruise control and so on.

BUT still have an O/D light that flashes.

the epc causes verry rough shifting and agressive pickup when putting it in gear cause the line pressure is at full when the epc fails.

the car is now driving great silkysmooth gear changes and pickup when putting it in drive or reverse.

i didnt cheked the fluid level in the tranny but can a low fluid level causes the O/D light to flash?

it has al 3 gears but i didnt cheked if it gets in 4 (o/d)

greets hans

Hi, The od light will only flash when the pcm detects an electrical fault in the autobox, however if you have low fluid level then u must have a leak, that could mean you have low pressure or the box is running hot if so the pcm  will see it and show a fault (flash od lamp).
top up the fluid, run the car until up to temp and then do a stall test. handbrake on, foot on brake, floor the throtle  no moor than 5 seconds, watch the revs, the revs should rise to between  2100 /2200 for a cossie and no more.
this should prove the clutches an torque converter.
Sounds to me like you have a wiring fault to the box.
to check this clean the maff, if that doesn't work then disconnect the maf an drive the car, the changes will be hard because the pcm doesn't use the Epc selonoid, it just changes on speed and revs, full pressure.
Is the speedo working ok (vss)
could be, low working pressure, epc soleniod, valve body fault. clogged filter ect.
Hope that helps, Dont give up. :-X

heheheh I WILL NEVER GIVE UP MY COSSIE M8.

the fluid looks crispy clean nice and red, no smells or strange colors.
i have no leaks or whatever.

i just dont cheked the level of it, will do it today, its dark now.

the box is shifting silky smooth
takes al gears like butter.

but the o/d ligth flashes, maybe i do another obd test just to be shure, i will try the car today again.

just want this one at its best because its pleasure to drive.

wiring faults are no option, everything is wired up ok and tested this evening and its OK.

i dont think there is a faulty solenoid because the car shifts and drives like it should be

obd tells it all.

greets.

Lol forgive me, had a few beers tonight and didnt read your thread properly,
? did you clear the codes after you fixed the Vss.
if not it can take it a wile to work it out that all is ok again.
hopefully the only fault you had was a confused pcm.

the o/d begins flashing after the first gearshift, as long as you stay in 1st gear nothing wrong when it shifts it begins to flash.

yes the codes should clear if you disconnect the battery for ten minutes or more.
The ecu will then go into " learn " mode for about 10 miles depending on driving style .

drove the car 10 minutes ago, very strange:

no speedo and speed related functions and the o/d light flashes a second or2 and not flashed again, shifting went fine.

does enyone know if i can obd scan the car with the vagcom obd hex+can usb reader????? wich software?
