Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have recently brought a 24v Estate. It is mint apart from one fault that I hope that someone who is experienced can help me with

Intermittently, I will be sat in traffic with the car idling normally then out of nowhere it cuts out. It always starts again no probs, its just annoying as hell (particularly when the lights have just gone green!)

I took it to a garage as im not the most mechanically minded, and the chap said that he could find nothing wrong with it! I drove it home and low and behold it cut out at the first traffic lights i stopped at!!

Also can anyone point me in the direction of a scorpio specialist mechanic in Exeter area? Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers

Hello and Welcome ;D

Its one of these "could be a million things" ;D

Possibly a diagnostic scan will show a code, could be wiring looms, fuel problems, Idle control valve, fuel pump, electrics etc a multitude of things, try cleaning the MAF for starters :)

hi there

as stuart has said, could be a number of things. cleaning the MAF is a good start as is cleaning the idle control valve.

it's the bit on top of the engine in this photo (looking through the windscreen to the front of the car). http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/Engine%20Repairs.htm

take a note of which side the multi plug is at, as it's really important to go back the same way. clean it out with carb cleaner and add a drop of oil to the 'ram' before re-fitting.

check for vacuum leaks, thats the favorite.

Thanks for the advice guys. It seems to have gone away on its own now?? Oh well, once less thing to sort out!

This is probably no use ;)

My 24V saloon did that after I bought it. Once I started to use it, er, properly ;D then that "fault" went away.

I don't think these cars like sitting around doing nothing. Not very scientific I admit but just my thoughts...

Yep, it had been sat for a while before i brought it. Its got a couple of minor things (stuff that you can live with easily) wrong, such as the blowers seem to have a mind of there own but apart from that I cant fault it.
I love it when you press the 'GO' pedal!! Awesome. Especially now it does not stall at the lights and make me look a prat

All the info on Air con or climate control and faults with the HBC( Heater blower control) is on THIS page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acindex.htm). Read through the details of the aircon etc and you will see that the blowers,whilst appearing to have a mind of their own could actually be working correctly.
