Title: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by wobbs on Dec 6th, 2007, 10:01pm Starts up fine, revs fine, engages gears fine but within 1/4 mile the accelerator stiffens up and only gives me 50% acceleration then it stiffens up completely and I have no acceleration ??? I spoke to an autobox expert he says if it engages gears its fine and the problem is electrical I connected the ELM320 and there are no DTC's Any ideas folks 1997 24v Ultima estate Regards Andy |

Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by Kjetil S on Dec 7th, 2007, 12:29am If it becomes physically hard to push in, then it sounds like a problem with your traction control system. Is the traction control warning light flashing? (the orange one looking like a wheel spinning) |

Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by wobbs on Dec 7th, 2007, 7:13am Hi Highlander It can be pressed but its as though i have added 5 extra strong springs. Traction control is ok for now, a few weeks ago though i got the traction control light and the abs light on for a while but they have not come on since then. it feels electronically restricted. if i sit in the car with the engine running with it in neutral, within 5 minutes it will unrestrict itself and give me 50% acceleration use but if i go for a drive again it will restrict 100%. Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by scorpio_man on Dec 7th, 2007, 7:42am hi there i agree with the t/c idea. try driving with the t/c switched off (light on dash). see if that's any better. then check the throttle cable. it runs all the way round the engine bay to the t/c unit behind the n/s headlight, then up to the throttle body. hth |

Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by Matt on Dec 7th, 2007, 9:07pm what size wheels are are on it? if the back are a smaller diameter then the front the car thinks the rear wheels are spinning |

Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by wobbs on Dec 8th, 2007, 11:18am Spoke to auto lecky (mark) and he confirms it is the traction control at fault so yes guys you were correct thankyou. he says i have 2 options change the accelerator cable and go direct to the throttle housing bypassing the TC system altogether or take a look at the system he says it works via cams on a push/pull basis he has never taken one apart as being with a ford dealer for 20 years all they have ever done is change the system. Has anyone ever taken the system apart to see what ticks? 1 thing he did say is that they are a fantstic car Matt the wheels are standard 16" cosworths what he did tell me is that 10% wheel speed difference engages the TCS Regards Andy |

Title: Re: Stiff accelerator within 500 yds of driving Post by scorpio_man on Dec 8th, 2007, 1:47pm hi there more than likely the t/c module itself. just change it for one from a scrap car. they're all the same. hth |
