Title: Is my wishbone warranty or not?
Post by carmow on Dec 7th, 2007, 10:13pm
My 1998 ultima has covered 128k, when I bought the car it came with a file of receipts and history. In this file is a receipt for a new o/s wishbone fitted at 120k in jan 06, the rear bush is again knocking. Is this a Ford warranty, local fitting garage warranty or just unlucky me. Fit a new bush for under £20 and stop moaning? :-/

:)

I'm not confident that you'll have any warranty after 18 months however i am fairly confident the bushes have been fitted incorrectly ;)

Sorry gang, mistake on the date, should say the wishbone was fitted 15/01/07 - 11 months ago.

hi  there

same thing applies. you need to  change it anyway, so you could try and see if they will refund you when you take the old one back. :-/

make sure the new one is fitted correctly. this is very important.

You mention wishbone but not the rearward facing bearing...were they both replaced at that date?

New wishbones come with bushes on them ;)

New wishbones come with the front rubber bushes fitted,  but not the  rear ones.

Could be that they fitted a spanking new wishbone but re-fitted the skanky old and soft  rear bush. :o

Just to verify the warantee period on the wishbone & rear (separate) bush.....

It's 12 months....

So if it's failed within that period then FMD should replace it. But they may argue that if it wasn't fitted at a FMD outlet then the warantee may be void, as they may argue that it has been fitted wrongly.

So to sum it all up...if it is fitted by FMD, then it is waranteed for 12 months. If it is not fitted by FMD, then the warantee is probably invalid  ::)

My advice is to go back to FMD (with the 11 month old receipt) & really make a nuisance of yourself....they will probably give in & give you a new replacement part to save arguement & face  ;)

Could you not take it back to the garage that fitted it and get them to sort it out, perhaps with some extra advice on how it should be correctly fitted?
