Hi All

I've posted an item in the 'wanted' section as my Scorpio is in dire need of a new hub assembly for the n/s rear quarter. Last week it started making a godawful noise and further investigation revealed the bearing was in about a thousand pieces. My mechanic tells me this has been happening for a 'long time' and has wrecked both the hub and the 'drive flange'(?).

Last month I drove the car from Bridlington to Spain without any hassle at all, so I suppose I can consider myself lucky it waited until I got here before doing a 'blues brothers'.

It does bear out the warning elsewhere on this site that wheel bearing issues can't be diagnosed on a ramp- the car was 'fully' checked out before I set off.

snap! i've got exactly the same trouble but rear off side, and ya right, it makes an awful noise.....

mine just disintegrated! luckily only few miles from home. They saved the main hosuing just. Curious though theres a vibration but only at around 70mph not before that speed or after that speed. wonder if i need wheels balancing

£265?....ouch....That's more than I paid for the car :o

I've ordered the parts off ScorpioWorld, my mate is bringing tham over to Spain for me, and my local mechanic only charges €15 an hour ;)

Next job is to get the aircon serviced before the summer...

Finally got it back on the road! The hub carrier was different to the one on the car, but my mechanic managed to cobble the bits together and make it all work.

I'm now informed that I'll need new rear calipers, discs and pads for it's next test in order to get the handbrake working properly. Still, that's 7 months away and I'll cross that bridge....

Just been through the same thing. A bit of good advise is to check the opposite side now!! If the damage was as bad as you said you can almost guarantee the other one is well on its way too.

Good advice 'dxt'. I remember before buying my Scorpio I went on a web site that gives users feedback on different cars (bit like Which? magazine). The overwhelming user issues regarding the Scorpio was electrical gremlins and rear wheel bearing failure. Within a year of buying mine and at just 50K on the clock a wheel bearing failed and I couldn't get the bearing races out of the hub so went to a dump and got an entire hub for £10. Not to mention the endless electrical gremlins I've since experienced. I was warned....
