Title: Cold radiator, water leaking
Post by Sam49 on Dec 20th, 2007, 12:16pm
Hello I know nothing about cars but I have a problem with my 2nd hand ford scorpio. When the car moves the radiator stays cold, the car starts to heat and you can hear water bubbling, and boiling and water pours out, this only really happens on a couple of miles run. Any help or ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

Possibly a stuck thermostat. What Scorpio have you got (year, engine size, etc.)

Check the belt that drives the water pump too, your tensioner may be gone.

Thats the rubber belt at the front of the engine as you look in, between the radiator and the engine, it goes round a lot of the engine components. it should be quite tight (dont check it with the engine running though) ;)

Where does the water come out??
I assumed it was the coolant overflow?

Could just be an airlock, was on mine with similar symptoms after I changed the coolant.

I would suspect somethings either been missed or fitted incorrectly when rebuilding it.

Go over everything and double check.

Just to clarify and not being cheeky but TEDDLE = PEDAL as in accelerator?

must be the alcohol  ;D

Boiling sounds very like a waterpump problem if all that work has been done
