Title: ABS / TCS lights on Post by Scorpio_Mike on Dec 20th, 2007, 8:26pm Not had this happen before - drove out of a car park and a few yards on noticed the ABS & TCS lights on - stopped about a mile down the road to go to Sainsbury's, restarted engine and lights stayed off. OK, a glitch maybe ? Did shopping, back in car and ABS & TCS lights on again, carried on for a few miles and pulled in petrol station to get some petrol, started engine again, ABS & TCS lights now off after a few seconds as normal, drove about a mile home - no warning lights came on. Anything I need to check like dirty sensors ? TIA |

Title: Re: ABS / TCS lights on Post by Tompion on Dec 20th, 2007, 9:06pm Pull the plugs apart a couple of times that are under the rear seat just in case it's a dirty contact. Clean the rear sensors as it's fairly easy to do, if there's nothing on them then clean the sensor rings. Basically do as little as possible in this weather. Dave |

Title: Re: ABS / TCS lights on Post by the_machine on Dec 22nd, 2007, 5:01pm the sensors are the main culprit. could be on the way out. this happened on my cossie. it was rear offside wheel sensor. they can seize themselves in too. spray wd40 on for few days to try and make it easier. theres a quick way to check using a multimeter. lift rear seats and disconnect in turn the abs sensor loom, measure the reading across the pins. compare this reading to a known working sensor. i.e check all four and you may see one with a different reading, this would be suspect. replace this unit. they should all read the same across the pins. im not sure of the reading or the resistance setting i used on my dvm (digital multi meter, £12 from maplin electronics or even b&q etc) however by establishing which sensor has the different reading it saves time i dont think the OBD code readers can check ABS mine is still ok after i fitted my second hand sensor. |

Title: Re: ABS / TCS lights on Post by Highlander on Dec 22nd, 2007, 8:08pm Was it wet at the time Mike?? I've had them come on the odd time and then go off same as yours but usually in very wet conditions. cleaning the sensors AND the castellated ring it gets the signal from may help if it returns, they do get very dirty |

Title: Re: ABS / TCS lights on Post by Scorpio_Mike on Dec 22nd, 2007, 8:55pm Not particularly wet, but a bit on the cold and damp side. Symptoms not returned so far. Hopefully just a bit of dirt which has cleared itself. |
