Title: heater , heats only on throtle
Post by ghia-cossie on Dec 26th, 2007, 10:11pm
hello

small thnigy again, last time that i drove the car inoticed when standing still de heater was cooling down, it was not as hot as it was when i drove.

now when i start the car the engine temp gets normal , the heater stays kind of cold.

but when i hit the throtle til 4/5000 rpm its hot as heck when i release the throtle it cools down like the heater matrix gets cooled by the blower and not getting new hot water.

so i can drive the car for hours but the engine temp stays normal (middle of the scale) en the heater works perfect as long as the engine has its revs.
and when running it on idle with the engine temp normal the heater is colder.

Just a thought and maybe wrong....

It sounds like an airlock which is only affecting the heater matrix. As in the water pump at fast engine speed manages to overcome the air lock enough to provide heat.

Second idea would be a matrix partial blockage being overcome by the pressure produced by the pump.

strange it all worked perfect seconds before , cooling system is verry clean.

could it be an electrical problem?, hope not.

yes thats normal it will go little up and little down but it dont get overheated, so there nothing wrong with my pump, as far as i can tell as a mechanic.

but here are people who know everything of the scorpio so i thought maybe they can tell me quiker than i can find.

I'd agree with harry, in that the the matrix either has an air lock or it is slightly restricted & it only gets hotter when the revs are higher because the water pump is putting more pressure through the matrix  :)

A slightly fluctuating temp guage may confirm this, as a restricted heater matrix may not let a good enough flow of water back into the engine block to cool it properly  :)

I take it that the water level has been checked & that it isn't too low ?  :)

water level = ok
coolant color = ok no rust or things
engine temp = ok

so i wil rip the hoses of , flush it the other way than it comes in, refill the system en try again.

thanks for the answers
