Title: no reading on temperature gauge
Post by carmow on Jan 3rd, 2008, 6:00pm
Guys, I have  2.3 that until recently has shown middle of the gauge for temperature. I took it for an MOT on 24/12/07 and the tester remarked that the gauge was inop on the paperwork, I have replaced the thermostat and the temperature sender (assuming that its the sensor with the 2 pin plug secured with a spring clip type of metal bar) and still no reading, where do I go next?

does your gauge still show halfway constantly or does it stay at the bottom?

it stays at the bottom, i was going to put it to earth but didn't want to damage anything before checking that was ok .. obviously removing the stuck needle issue

MORE info...
Have just removed the plug and found the sheathing leading from the loom to it is split, it was showing bare wires which may have touch, I have stripped it back to good sheathing and taped the wire totally (seperatly of course).

the gauge when you start up does move off the stop, don't know if that means its working but a cold engine or just the electronics kicking in.

On my 2.3 the sender unit for the gauge is the one nearest the front of the car.

Sender replaced and gauge earthed out - now all working ! how strange, didn't work until gauge was earthed out.
