Title: diesel tank leak
Post by chriscliff on Jan 6th, 2008, 12:57am
Can anyone help with this one please. The tank on my TD has started to leak suddenly from somewhere at the top LHS front corner - seems to be from the top of the tank somewhere. It leaks when stationary.
Any ideas please on cause and how to fix. Is this a known fault or is it likely to be a hole?
Thanks

You'll need to remove it to know for sure, not a big job if you can gets the nuts off the tank straps ;)

They can leak around the middle seam or from the top at the pipes and bends or it maybe as you say physical damage..

You may be able to repair it but remember the tank should be under pressure when everything is working so chewing gum isnt the best solution ;)

I'd look out for a good second hand one or a cheapish new one

Thanks
It looks like the fuel hoses are flexible - presumably that means I can drop the tank down without having to disconnect pipework? (assuming as you say I can undo the nuts which are extremely corroded).

The hoses are flexible, so lowering it shouldn't be a problem.
