Title: Cossie interior freezing... Post by gerryw on Jan 11th, 2008, 1:18am Hi all (again) My 1997 Cossie is trying to freeze me to death! On starting off I set the temp on the A/C c.c. bezel to, say 25 degrees or more and off I go (interior of car is freezing). 1st point; the temp guage needle takes about 10 mls or more before it decides to move off the bottom and takes an age to get to the 'normal' setting. 2nd point: the blowers start to blow out cold air even when the temp setting on the AC/CC bezel is set to 25 degrees or more and it does not change at all even if I drive for 20/30 miles or further. I still get a good steady blasting of ice cold air! 3rd point; the temp guage goes down when I slow down or stop at lights or cross roads etc. and it rarely gets back to the 'normal' setting (but if I stop for a length of time (20mins +) with engine running it will move well ablove the normal setting). Can anybody let me know what the hell is going on and how can I fix it before I die of Hyperthermia!!! Regards Gerryw (Just call me "Blue Nose")... |

Title: Re: Cossie interior freezing... Post by jonnycab on Jan 11th, 2008, 1:39am If the cooling system takes along time to warm up, then maybe the thermostat needs replacing. No heat from the heater even when the engine temp is normal points toward a blocked heater matrix. To check for a blocked heater matrix...first let the engine warm up, then locate the heater matrix pipes. They should both be hot, but if the outlet pipe is cold then the heater matrix is blocked :) |

If the heater matrix is found to be blocked do you have any hints/tips how to unblock it? The thermostat is apparently in a very inhospitable place under the engine so I suppose that would have to be done by a garage (expensive)? Regards Gerryw |

Post by Highlander on Jan 11th, 2008, 1:16pm Thermostat isnt too difficult if you can get good access under the car. you can try flushing your matrix with a hose, there is an inlet and an outlet hose on the bulkhead inside the engine bay, disconnect the hoses and flush the matrix from here |
