Hi all (Again),
(Cossie 1997)

This is getting to be monotonous. I seem to be getting problem after problem...

In a previous Posting I have noted that I have a problem with the heater (cold air only) and I think that this latest problem is linked to that?

OK then, this is my latest:- When I use my car, say for a short journey (or longer) and then stop (shoping etc.) and then return all the windows are misted up and I have also found when I get out of the car after the journey, the seat of my pants seem to be very slightly damp (I use the seat warmer to keep warm... no heater).

I have rubbed my hand over the carpets and everywhere else I can get to but there does'nt seem to be a damp/wet spot that I can find, also my Radio LCD display has stopped working (but radio/CD changer is still working OK).

Any ideas on what is causing my latest problem would be very welcome...!

Regards
Gerryw

sounds like time for a new heater matrix.

they make special pants these days that might help  ;D

my cossie does this as well, getting all misty, but without the damp bum. it clears pretty fast though. i know i am getting water in passenger footwell, from behind the glovebox, so i assume its thats, check up there. carpets often appear dry, but there is still water ! does sound like there is water coming from in behind dash or stereo area, maybe heater matrix.

Rub your hand over your roof lining, especially where it meets the windscreen & check for dampness.Blocked sunroof drain chanels are a very common fault which results in water leaking into the cabin via the lining. This can then allow water to drip onto your seats, gearstick surround (especially your mode select buttons),run down the "A" pillar covers & screen & down the back of the dash.Any amount of dampness in the car will cause it to steam up.As for your display not working.Try taking the removable panel in the house with you overnight.(keeping it warm & dry). This can sometimes be of help, but the 7000 series stereo,s do have a tendancy to have bad lcd displays.Hope this helps.....craig :)

Have you checked the aircon drains, see here:

The sunroof drains are cleared by pushing a length of flexible curtain wire or similar down the tube which exits under the wheel arch IIRC.

Most often internal steaming up of windows is caused by aircon problems (I presume you keep it on all the time) and dampness is usually caused by blocked aircon drain filters. Easy to fix..documented here in this site somewhere. Check this first before you rip the heater matrix out :-)

Hi also have a look in the boot make sure the tyre well is dry.

are you loosing engine coolant ? if you are not it will not be your heater matrix

Check the vacuum actuator unit on the side of the air box. You can it easily with the bonnet up. They get wet all the time and rust then fall apart. Mine did and caused the interior to steam up because there was no fresh air getting into the car. A replacement cost me only £10 from a breakers and gave a complete cure  ;D

I had exactly the same problem and it was simply cleaning the air con drains as our colleague mentions earlier in this thread.  Sounds too simple and that's what I thought - but he's right and its so easy. Must be I did it!!
