Title: Difference between Old and New Style Remotes
Post by macw on Jan 22nd, 2008, 10:54pm
I had a M reg Scorpio (MSRIP) with two good remotes that I tried to program to my P reg Scorpio. They did not work using the method proscribed on the web site which worked for my other remote. I then noticed they are different, not the 95 GP-15K601-AB, but 5G725 KMn I think. Does anyone know what the diference is and if there is another programming method to get these older fobs working with a newer car?

Pete,

It's definitely a M reg Scorpio. I have tried the method in the manual and it didn't work on the P reg, I seem to recall it did work on the M reg (Scorpio_man)

Thanks for your replies. It interests me what the difference is, the problem is being part of the security system it's difficult to get information unless you get enrolled at one of HMP schools of car theft!

Theres good money betting your M reg is a 85-94 MK3 Granada Scorpio and not a 95-98 Scorpio  ;)

Maybe posting a photo of the two remotes would be an idea?

Highlander, how could one confuse a old Granada Scorpio with a Scorpio they don't exactly look similar. I drove this M reg car for about 8 years I think I might have noticed which vehicle it was...
It seems everybody has a newer Scorpio's. I've checked a M reg 24V and it has the same remote. The remotes are identical on the front (same moulding I think) and the rears are the same apart from the part nos. and the layout of the part number information. I'll try and upload some photos. It is difficult as I said the only difference is the part numbers moulding black on black into the back of the remote which may not photograph clearly.

Anyone else out there who knows the difference? :)

Oh its happened a LOT :)

I even had a guy come and pick a gearbox up from me for a "Scorpio" which turned out to be a Granada mk3, and I had 4 Scorpios parked at the door at the time!! :)

I've got  remotes with different numbers but never had a problem programming them although sometimes the number of turns if the ignition seems to vary

Highlander, I know what you mean. I would have thought it was even worse in Germany where the entire Granada MK2 (or was it 3) were called Scorpios, I don't know what they called the "Scorpio"?
I should have tried a little harder with permutations of turns of the key I'll give it a go again, thanks for the reminder :). I use the memory seats and share the vehicle with family so I wanted to have a second remote programmed for them if I can remember how. I used to have two of the seat profiles set up for two remotes on the M reg Scorpio.
Perhaps I should change my profile from Newbie, I've been driving these cars since they came out, fortunately up until recently they've been reliable, old family Ford dealer with experienced mechanics (went bust some years ago :(). So I'm a Newbie to fixing them...
