Title: Battery drain/will not start
Post by Capt_Haddock on Jan 23rd, 2008, 8:48pm
Cossie 2.9 (M Reg)Batteries flattened within hour. Car started OK with jump, but now will not start after running low on fuel. Topped tank with 5ltrs but still will not start.
Question, does it need more fuel to reactivate sensors or could it be the inertia switch playing up?  I do have a damp floor on the front pass side.

the pass side fuse box is more then likely wet then, it also contains the fuel pump relay and battery saver relay. you need to remove the fuse box and check it for dampness and also check to see why water is entering the car, the ecu and patts moduals are also on that side of the car under the dash, so they could easily be wet as well  :(

Thanks Matt.  You were right, the underside of the fuebox beside the battery was indeed soaked and 2 of the wires were bare.  The car did start once and then shut down.  I'll let you know the full outcome in a couple of days when things have been rectified.

Matt - here's the followup I promised. My cosworth is now back on the road.  The fuse box holder was also damaged on its bottom, it had been overheating and this had burnt at least 3 wires. All replaced with another box and short loom from my other redundant Ford Scorpio. Many Thanks for your help
