Title: tdi alternators (for new member) Post by scorpio_man on Feb 4th, 2008, 6:34am Help, new boy on the block, how do I get the board index page to start a new thread? I have problem with alternators had three new ones & 2 repaired in ten years have had the 2.5 TDi Ultima any ideas? cheers crocket (new member) |

Title: Re: tdi alternators (for new member) Post by taliban aka Cheekyboy2 on Feb 4th, 2008, 2:32pm the early oil burners were fitted with a 75amp alternator which couldnt take the strain, ford later fitted either a 120 or 125amp one, it might be that the ones you've had replaced were the earlier version..... |

Title: Re: tdi alternators (for new member) Post by sector-9 on Feb 6th, 2008, 10:23pm I believe the early alternator was also used on some Transit vans. You cannot fit one from a petrol engine because the vacuum pump (for the brake servo) is driven from the back of the alternator. Later diesels had an alternator with a front mounted vacuum pump which looks similar to the one fitted to the Rover L-series diesel engine. Darren |
