Post by craigs2007 on Feb 15th, 2008, 11:25am
Hi all..I have a p reg 97 2.3 scorp..It drives lovely and is in good order..The only thing wrong is the digital readouts for the mileage and trip computer start flashing and going haywire at random..It dont affect the way the car drives at all..Any ideas what the problem could be?

Ill try and put up a video of it later if i can work out how  ???

Craig,

check the connections to the instrument pod at the rear. It will involve removing the dash though :(

Dash is dead easy to remove - one Phillips screw driver (+maybe a torx bit, I can't remember), some stereo removal prongs and one hour of your time is all you need.

I've done it about 5 times to replace clocks and bulbs etc.

Ive only recently purchased the car. The previous owner said its been doing it for a while..But said that it does not affect the way the car drives

hi there

oh! :(

it could (i say could) be a sign that the mileage has been changed. :-X

i've seen that before, but try plugging the 2 plugs on the rear it again. hopefully that will be it.

craigs2007.
Does your trip button feel right when you press it,ie does it make a soft click,if not there is a possibility it is jammed in.

hi there

that might change things. might be a battery/voltage issue.

check the battery voltage and do you get flicking dash neddles when you start?

hi there

i think we have a winner!!!! ;D

it's usually a sign of a failing battery. best to change it, but make sure you get a big enough one for the scorpio.

hi there

take it back and get them to check it.

it could be a dodgy battery or the alternator.

Craig, check the alternator output I had similar problems and a new alternator solved the lot. Well I put a second hand one on as they are bloody expensive!!
