Title: Alarm and central locking
Post by boycee on Feb 15th, 2008, 12:15pm
Hi

I'm new to the forum but have owned scorpios for years.

I have a 1997 2.3 Ultima estate which has been sat for a few weeks. The problem is that the battery has gone flat and the deadlocking is on. I have managed to get in the car and replaced the battery, however, when reconnecting the battery the alarm goes off and the central locking remains on. The key wont turn in the locks although it would before. Any ideas, guys, this is driving nuts.

This is a pure guess BUT if the bonnet is still up then the alarm switch next to the bonnet catch on the cross member will be 'live'. Try keeping it pressed down with a weight or similar, connect the battery, and then see if  a: the alarm is silent and b; if you can open the car as normal.  :) You don't say how you got into the car,and I am not asking on the open forum, but remember there are sensors on the doors and the rear windows on the estate.

Thanks for the prompt reply, Simmo.

Nothing technical, I'm afraid - had to put a window in, I'm in the process of replacing the heater matrix so this is obviously giving me some grief!

I've disconnected the bonnet switch but the alarm still goes off. I can even start the car, but cannot release the dealocking or alarm although there is a clicking noise coming from the glove box area - sounds like a relay

There is a relay listed as 'behind the glovebox' for the heater blower motor. Yellow and number 28. Could it be that?. Also recently there was a problem with a clock and IIRC that was covered by fuse 17, in the drivers side fusebox, which according to a diagram also seemed to cover the alarm. Try pulling that?.

hi there

spray in a LOT  of wd40 into both front locks and work the key gently.

if it worked before (as in the key/lock wasn't worn and locked AND unlocked the car) then it should start working again.

also do you have a remote? you could try reprogramming that and see if it will unlock the doors.

I have two remotes which both worked fine before. Have reprogrammed both but this has not had any effect. Persevering with the WD40 in the locks - no joy yet

Is there any way of resetting the central locking/alarm?

hi there

you could try disconnecting the battery.

then as you connect it again, get someone to hold one of the front door handle in the open position (outside handle).

it might trigger the central locking to do a unlock/lock cycle.
