Title: Parking Distance Sensor
Post by ajp on Feb 28th, 2008, 9:22am
Problem is that when reverse engaged lights do not come on and it makes the "red" position continuous loud bleep...recently had tow bar removed so could it be dodgy electrics somewhere.....ps before tow bar removed similar but lights flashed ....after ball removed OK for two days...

Most reversing warning systems (factory or retro fitted) obtain power form the reversing light circuit. If you have no reversing lights, check fuses and wiring. On the Scorp..if I remember, reversing light wiring is coloured VT/BU (violet/blue).

Could also be the transmission selector switch, I had a problem with the reverse lamps not showing, didn't know until one day I had an irate lady knocking on the window telling me I'd nearly run her over. Whoops ::)

It didn't make the buzzer sound though, are any of the door warning lamps on in the dash? My driver's door switch was a bit dodgy at first and used to trip the buzzer sometimes.

I remember one of the other guys a while ago having a similar problem with the hazards coming on at random which was traced to a faulty connector in the tow bar loom.

Regards, Bruce.

If you car is a saloon check the loom in the area adjacent to the offside hinge of the boot. This is a known trouble spot as,if not properly secured, the loom can be contacted by the hinge damaging the wiring. You may have to remove the 'outer wrapping' to check the internal wires.

Yes, the wiring loom in the boot hinge (passenger side). This is where I connected my retro-fit reversing kit. Turned out to be violet/black wire for the reversing lamps (not VT/BU as suggested in the wiring diagram). I also saw some other slightly damaged wire there, which I repaired.

Solved problem......disconnected module from o/s rear and doused all parts exposed with electrical contact spray.

Thanks again for replies
