Title: major electrical problem.
Post by crop on Mar 4th, 2008, 5:02pm
Hi, scorpio ultima 2.0ltr
My electric windows, seats, mirrors etc have all packed up. I can find no blown fuses so the question is.
Is there anything that links all these that could have blown....many thanks..crop

Have you got the main fusebox connector back on correctly?. You MUST locate the lugs on the connector in position BEFORE you snap it into place. It will go in 'one row of pins' out and cause all sorts of faults. There is a saying here that 'if it goes on easily the first time it 'aint on right'!!.

Sorry to be a bother but the electric seats are now working and its just the front windows and the electric mirrors which do not. The back windows work from the back but nothing works from the drivers side, i have removed the switch panel on the armrest and nothing seems amiss.

From personal experience, it is very easy to miss a fuse which has blown. I had a rather odd electrical problem with the Granada and went through the fuses several times, but completely failed to spot the narrow gap in the wire where a fuse had blown - always test them with a meter. A quick way is to use a meter on the 20v DC range using a couple of sharp probes (assuming the fuses are of the type having the small windows at each end to get to the metal) - any voltage across the fuse, means it has blow. The alternative way is to pull each one out and check it with the meter on the resistance range - even easier if the meter makes a noise on continuity.
