Title: clutch problems
Post by aukeho on Mar 6th, 2008, 6:55pm

Scorpio 2.3 v16 1997 manual gearbox

It started with difficulties switching gears; especially the first and second gear. A few weeks later i could not declutch completely.
The garage changed the complete clutch, including hydraulic release etc. Problem still the same; complete declutch is impossible. So they said they have to change the flywheel als well (€ 600!). Then sure the problem would be solved.
No result!
They say they don't know what to do now. And I don't know either. Is there anybody who has a suggestion for a solution?
Help!

If the clutch is draging,it could be spigot bearing problems in the end of the crank ?

If not a clutch problem....then maybe a gearbox problem ?.....synchromesh ?  :-/

I'm having the same problem, the box started to get harder into gear, the stick has got a lot o play. I have changed the clutch, pressure plate, dual-mass flywheel. Also i had the clutch pedal travel distance incorrect. After all this work and lots of $$ it worked great for a few months, now it's starting to do it again, harder and harder  :-X I think the culprit is the slave cylinder and the increasing wear and play in the rod.

theres no rod, the slave cylinder is called a carm unit, its a concentric cylinder with the release bearing on the end of it, if master cylinder actuation is ok, poss spigot brg fault in back of crank, or g/box is 'driving through' via the bearing in the back of the 1st motion shaft, or 5th gear can cause this type of fault.

Sorry, probably the truth was lost in the translation  (as i'm not English ;D)
rod = gear lever = stick = that thing you use for changing gears :)
slave cylinder = the bearing that move the clutch to engage / disengage  :)

Have the master cylinder been changed?

Yes, the changed the master and the slave; in fact they have changed everything considering the clutch

Problem solved. Changed the gearbox with one from the scarp, and the clutch works fine again.
Thanks everybody for all advice!
