Title: Intercooler & oil lines
Post by shooshyneman on Mar 12th, 2008, 8:25am
Scorpio 2.5TD R-S Reg I have a leak on the oil line to the intercooler The metal oil line is seized to the alloy intercooler.
Any Ideas on seperating them without damaging the alloy intercooler?

I now know how not to do it!
In the end I tried carefully heating the nut and was able to unscrew the nut fastening it to the radiator. It came off and the rubber washer was intact.
Unfortunately it had melted the threads on the alloy.
£135..00 for the new intercooler and 2 x £85.00 for two oil lines!

My other scorpio is also leaking from an oil line http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/YaBBImages/cry.gif

No its on the other oil line, which incidentally is still attached to the old radiator with the damaged  thread. The dilemma is, can I get the thread back  somehow (Although its short of metal) and use this radiator, as heating the nut up only seems to damage the radiator, or do I try to split the nut on the bad pipe hopefully not damaging the good radiator this time, and using the old pipe, assuming I can get it off intact.
Or is there a Better way?

is it also a diesel though ? and is it a pipe going to the intercooler or is it an auto box pipe going to the rad on this one ?

Its definitely a diesel, definitely oil pipes, same problem as the other. I gather the thread on the cooler is (20mm x 1.5 fine thread) any one know for sure? I m going to try   liquid metal or something to build up the alloy and try rethreading it
