Title: auto fluid capacity Post by stevie on Mar 24th, 2008, 1:03am i,v just had the fuid changed on my auto scorpio 2.3 16v i watched the mechanic fill the box up he only put 5 litres of fluid in ,the box is working ok except for engaging drive it slowly engages after 3 or 4 seconds then drives ok through the gears however it drops out of gear as i ease off the gas then as i give it some gas as i pull away it engages again i,v just read on the spec pages that the box takes 10.3 litres my car has a transmission cooler fitted the dip stick shows fluid but its not covered its just damping the dip stick should the dip stick be soaked with fluid when i take it out forgive my ignorance fellas but not had the scorpio very long bout 6 weeks i love the car by the way they should still make them very good car lovely cruiser |

Title: Re: auto fluid capacity Post by Octavian_P on Mar 24th, 2008, 8:33am With the box hot, and parked on a flat level ground, switch the selector through all gears 3 times, then leave the selector in P (and engine running !). Take the dipstick out, clean it, and the insert and take it out. the level shoud be between min and max. |

Title: Re: auto fluid capacity Post by Octavian_P on Mar 24th, 2008, 1:59pm It working OK after the change, definitely smoother, no slippage, it does overheat (Romanian traffic is simply chaos) so i added a second radiator and soon I'll be putting a set of fans to cool it :) |

Title: Re: auto fluid capacity Post by Octavian_P on Mar 25th, 2008, 11:09am Just a few, i have 3, a friend of mine has one, and in 3 years i haven't seen more than 20 Scorpios. It's impossible to find one in the breakers, all parts must be ordered from main dealers and the prices are huge. |

Title: Re: auto fluid capacity Post by stevie on Mar 28th, 2008, 8:58pm hi how should the dip stick look when i check it mine is just damp with atf should it be soaked to the max level the guy who changed the atf only put 6 litres in but my scorpio has got the oil cooler i dont want to over fill it the auto box pages state 10.3 litres :-/ |

Title: Re: auto fluid capacity Post by adam on Mar 28th, 2008, 10:59pm Yes,it should be to the max level, but make sure to check level ONLY after a decent run and on level ground as Octavian_P has previously mentioned. Your mechanic may have only put 5 litres in to side on the side of caution, not knowing the true capacity. Bring it back to him and ask him to check the level, if you are unsure yourself. |
