Title: faint knocking sound from back wheel?? Post by lucydog on Apr 4th, 2008, 8:30pm hi, i am hearing a faint knocking sound from the rear wheel of my 97 scorpio when the car has done a few miles?, as soon as i apply the brakes the knocking stops?. do you think its the wheel bearing and if so would giving the bearing a quick tighten solve the problem?... thanks all.. |

Possibly. Could perhaps be other things as well. Other members may know more. on 04/04/08 at 20:30:08, lucydog wrote:
No. If it's the bearing, then the only solution is to change it. |

Quite an easy DIY job on the scorpio just follow the instructions as per the web site . Good luck. PS If it is and you need the HUB I do have a second hand one ! Cheap! |

The rear wheel bearings are pre spaced and the hub nut should be torqued to 200 lb/ft.They are not adjustable,if your hub nut happens to be loose it is almost certain that the bearings will be damaged. Title: Re: faint knocking sound from back wheel?? Post by jonnycab on Apr 5th, 2008, 12:56pm Could be a drive shaft CV joint, they tend to knock when worn :) Also check that the caliper isn't loose. Another culprit, which I had a while back & was causing a small knock, was a broken brake pad retaining spring :) |
