Title: Slow running of cooling fans
Post by gameboy on Apr 6th, 2008, 10:32pm
Hi have 24V, cos, have read the section which deals with the slow running of the cooling fans. The two fan on my car don't run at slow speed at all the only come on high speed when it's about to over heat. Is this the fault of the fans, can anybody advise me please.

Thanks

Dave

I doubt its a fan problem, more likely to be the relay that controls both fans. This is a large green relay mounted near the rear of driver's side headlamp and you can remove the green cover to reveal 3 relays.

You can saffely press these relays by hand to activate one fan then the other. I can't remember the exact sequence but you can test each fan at half speed and full speed this way. All 3 relays activated equals both fans at full speed. I would have to check the circiut diagram to recall the exact sequence.

To acheive half speed, both fans (by use of the relays) become wired in series and therefore both spin at half speed.

Also, check fuses 37,39 and 44

If both fans run then check the big green relay, and the two wires leading from it back to the ECU - one of them controls low speed, other controls high (short to ground to activate).  The other wires are power and grounds which you obviously have otherwise one or more fans wouldn't run at all.
