Title: Handbrake Post by ChrisF on Apr 17th, 2008, 6:17pm I have got a Handbrake Cable from Partco (£18.50), better than the £47.90 + VAT. My problem I have now is the part that the cable connects to on the wheel cylinder, it appears to be seized. But on checking with another car where the handbrake works that one seems seized as well. |

Why did you need a new cable?I suppose you have an autobox,people have a silly habit of relying on the park lock,and never use the handbrake,hence operating lever seizure.Try a Mole wrench with plenty of jollop before you fit the cable,remove the return spring if necessary.To make a good job of it you should really remove the shaft to clean it up,but you may be lucky. Title: Re: Handbrake Post by Roger@NOrWAY on Apr 18th, 2008, 1:18am gozz, I totally agree with you on that one! Correct parking procedure: Engage brake pedal, handbrake maximum on, gear lever in 'P'! Correct starting procedure: Engage brake pedal, gear lever in 'D' (or 'R), handbrake of, release brake pedal, drive away! Less strain on the gearbox as well, especially when parking in a slope. However, lever seizure seems to be inevitably on these cars anyway >:( |

Title: Re: Handbrake Post by Snoopy on Apr 23rd, 2008, 8:16pm Ther are exploded views of the raqer claipers and handbrake mechanism is avilable HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/rbrakes.htm) if it is just the handbrake mechanism that is seixed then you can remove and clean it up without any loss of fluid etc ... |
