Hi guys this one has me stumped . I withdrew old sender unit using a 22 mil socket but surprisingly the core plug that screws on to the block came out as well, so what, just screw it back in followed by the sender unit, my problem is when offering the core back into the block it just kept on turning in fact the core plug turns freely without any resistance at all and now I am stuck, the only thing I can think of is that previously a helecoil has been fitted but I can find no trace, what are your thoughts on this, I do hope i have explained in a way you understand.

what engine is this?

if it's the 2.3 (plastic mainfold), i just used some quicksteel on it.

Hi Scorpio Man, yes it is the 2.3 but excuse my ignorance what is quick steel and how would I use it for this purpose, bearing in mind the core fits like a wobbly tooth, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at THIS site (http://www.motorshop1.co.uk/quiksteel.asp). I think Johnny cab has also had some success with this material and will no doubt offer advice along with Scorpio Man.

hi there

if that's where your problem is, just use some quicksteel or the like to glue it back in place.

remember to leave a 'gap' in the screw as the sensor doesn't go all the way in.

Many thanks for most helpful and prompt clear advice I realy thought I may have replace the whole thermostat housing I will give it a crack tomorrow, I have to say that I have been a member of this sight for some five years now and it has always come up trumps, you are all stars.

Hi Guys , sorry to be a pain but I am having a problem trying to source quiksteel in the area I live in, there is a local motorist discount shop but I know they don,t stock it, my question is, is there another product that is as reliable as quiksteel and if so suggestions please.

I hope I'm wrong, but it may blow back out. I tried to do the same a couple of years back, but the pressure just blew it out again, quickly followed by all the water ::)

The brass plug doesn't actually screw in, it's a very close push fit :)

The only way I found to get the thing to stay in was to use a slow setting & very strong high temperature glue around the plug, then push the plug in as far as it will go & clamp it up until the glue has dried.....Then put some JB weld around the face of the plug to strengthen it.

I've only had success with quick steel when repairing cracks in the housing :)

But fingers crossed that your fix will hold ;)

as i said earlier, i just stuck it back in place using quicksteel. that was about 2 or 3 years ago.

so far (200 miles), it's held on the repair i've made to the crack i got on the thermostat housing. i fixed it by widening the crack to about 1mm x 200mm and patching from the inside out. hopefully it will hold.
