Title: power loss at 3500 revs?? Grinding as well
Post by tezzabuckle on Apr 19th, 2008, 7:36pm
Hi Guys,
My scorpio goes funny when i over accelerate. dosen't matter which gear. If i put my foot down in 2nd say, it goes fine upto around 30 mph ish (3500 ish) all of a sudden there is no more power. If I ease off the gas then it goes back to normal, but if I increase again it won't  go any faster. It does it in 1st+3rd as well. I haven't had a chance to do it in 4th yet.  If I gear change when it happens its ok until I hit the same amount of revs.
Any ideas Guy's?

While I'm here, dont know if its related, but I have another concern.
It feels like something turning under the pedals.
When clutch is depressed fully its ok, as I lift to pull away it feels rumbly. (like cogs turning under my foot.)
Driving i cant feel it, but as I slow and especially as I turn i can feel under clutch and brake. You can here it as well when parking. Sounds like something catching.
Could it be something loose or worn under the car? I've had brakes checked (kwik fit)and they are fine. There is no leaks under the car either (which is good for a p reg apparently. It is definatley something turning and catching under pedals. Does anyone know what it could be? Please ask if you need more info. Its the best i can describe.
Thanks in advance
Terry :(

Maybe the steering UJ coupling is hitting something that has come loose ?  :-/

tezza.
Mighty mysterious set of happenings!Logic puts it at something in the bellhousing,ie clutch about to disintegrate, but how do you get to 3500 rpm without slippage(if that is what is causing powerloss)and slippage would cause even higher revs with loss of pull. The grinding sensation under the pedals one thinks must be transmitted via the clutch as you have looked at the brakes already.Going from the sublime to the ridiculous,I have known an engine to run with a broken crankshaft, always worth a check.I would think that all your faults must pertain to one fault.Maybe a dyed in the wool hard bitten Scorpio victim has suffered a similar thing and will contact you soon.
                        Keep grindin on  ;D GOZZ.

hi there

the power loss sounds like a blocked exhaust, maybe the cat is breaking up?

has 1 or both small rubber pipes came off the egr pipework just before the exhaust heat shield?
